I like fun facts!

Did you know there’s a secret subway station under the City Hall in NYC? The beautifully tiled City Hall station was closed to the public in 1945, but you can still catch a glimpse of it by staying on the 6 train after its last stop. It’s a hidden gem beneath the bustling city streets!

What's in my shower?

Hi everyone! What’s been going on?

HAPPY FEBRUARY 1ST!

(finally...)

2020 is the year of growth! Applying this to every aspect of life - finance, love, business, hair, skin & nails! okaaaaay!

I figured I’d update you guys starting with.. what’s in my shower! I know right, weird start but my hair and skin are the most affected in these colder months and I wanted to put ya’ll on to what helps me maintain a smooth, clear, hydrated complexion and scalp.

BRIOGEO

BE GENTLE, BE KIND

banana + coconut nourishing shampoo & conditioner

Aside from this duo smelling like a heavenly banana + coconut smoothie, I love that it’s a pair... I don’t know if it’s my OCD about things always having to match, or the simple fact that I just love being coordinated but yea... I love sticking to a washing regimen that already has a sidekick I can trust without the effort of looking for one.

Ingredients -

Banana: rich in potassium and antioxidants that help keep hair shiny + nurtured.

fun fact - The banana is classified as a berry!

Coconut: Rich in fatty acids and vitamin E for hydration.

Acai: packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals - not only is Acai just delicious for bowls, it supports healthy-looking hair!

Some of my tips for hair washing -

Don’t believe the myths! Wash your hair when needed. Whether it’s every day, every other day or every week - everyone is different!

Condition first & only the ends. I use a pea-size amount & leave in for 5-6 minutes.

Shampoo twice & only your scalp. Shampoo cleans, but it can also dry the hair out - avoid those ends!

Rinse out hair with cold water.

Cold water closes the cuticles and pores of your scalp and adds luster and shine, it also aids in controlling frizz!

Once or twice a week, depending on weather & my scalp, I like to rinse my scalp with the Cantu Refresh Root Rinse which is made with apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, and Shea butter. My scalp can be very dry & a lot of things factor into that such as - lack of water, weather conditions, hats, oil, dry shampoo/products, and my hands! I am always touching my hair/scalp. I incorporate this product, usually on a Sunday… I have a routine lol.

I apply it to my scalp after conditioning my roots and before shampooing my scalp.

One of the best scalp detoxifiers in my opinion, why?

Instant refreshment to the scalp.

Soothes irritation & itch.

Apple cider vinegar helps prevent fungal bacteria growth & is also anti-inflammatory.

Tea Tree oil helps with removing built-up dead skin cells, oil & products. This helps to increase oxygen and nutrient supply to the hair follicles and protecting the scalp from infections!

Shea butter provides moisture & absorbs quickly and completely into the scalp that rehydrates without clogging pores.

It is a great added benefit for people with treated and/or heat-treated hair.

Body Scrubs/Exfoliators & In Shower Moisturizers

Why is exfoliating your body just as important as anything else?

Because just like we want to rid of the dead and negative in our lives, the same applies to our skin. Exfoliating is a super important part of preventing body acne, inflamed pores and dry skin due to bacteria, sweat, and dirt.

While exfoliating does a great job of ridding all things dead, it’s also a great way to prep skin for the next step. When you exfoliate your face or body, you're giving your skin a clean slate to allow other products to penetrate deeper into the pores without any bacteria preventing it.

Take into consideration that while it is important to remove dead skin it is also important not to strip away your skin’s natural oils. But! Considering that the skin on our body is not as thin as the skin on our face exfoliating 2-3 times a week is okay!

Fun Fact: Exfoliating also aids in blood circulation and lymphatic drainage which in turn helps achieve healthy glowing skin, uh yes please!

Dirty Works Buff Your Stuff Scrub -

Buff ya stuff everyone!

I love Dirty Works & usually find great products at my local Marshalls! Dirty Works has everything from foot/hand scrubs, bath bombs, moisturizers & even facial care. When it comes to exfoliating whether it’s my face or my body, I don’t like to use anything that is too abrasive against my skin. I am a bit more on the sensitive side so anything to harsh or fragranced irritates me! Buff Your Stuff has the perfect balance of moisture to soften skin from the sweet almond oil and exfoliant from the Pecan Shell particles. Gentle, yet effective & packed with Vitamin E, Rock Rose and Neroli essential oils, I always feel my best, shiniest self after each use!

Possibly one of the softest exfoliators I have ever used and that’s because of its whipped, creamy texture! Created with 1/4th moisturizing cream, this polish exfoliates the skin while deeply nourishing it. As it buffs away dull, dry, flakey skin, it leaves an end result of silky-smooth feels. I have three favorites and they are -

Macadamia & Rice Milk

Pomegranate seeds & Shea Butter

Crushed Lavender & Coconut Milk

They smell a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y heavenly!

This is my current favorite body lather to use after I exfoliate. With the weather in the colder numbers, my skin can become extremely dry without proper care. I love Olay and the consistency of their products. Whether it is bar form or body wash, the texture of the product is extremely rich in moisture and hydration. Olay soap does not strip my skin or leave any residue once dry. I like to use a buff puff product for a final scrub to really rid of all the dead skin I had just exfoliated off.

I purchased this mini pad from my local CVS.

I love purchasing soaps from my local Marshalls! Anything organic, made with oats, shea butter or goat milk!

So… for someone who gets out of the shower and sits on her bed for twenty-five minutes to contemplate life… Jergens Wet Skin Moisture is the ultimate lifesaver for my skin. I think it’s a genius idea to apply a moisturizer and/or oil right before getting out of the shower because -

Your skin is at its peak moisture levels being able to lock in hydration for smoother, luminous skin and -

It cuts out so much time! Once I am out of the shower, my skin is already moisturized so I don’t even have to worry about applying lotion.

Just an FYI before I go on…

I HATE SHAVING! period.

I recently started laser hair removal of my underarms & I must say, the treatment is not as painful as one may think. I will soon be looking into treatments for my arms & legs but until then, these BIC Soleil sensitive razors with comfort shield - are my BFFs.

Out of every razor I have ever used since the days of shaving began, I have never found one as comfortable as this one. My skin is extremely sensitive, and shaving does leave my skin with irritation, ingrown & razor bumps often. I appreciate the comfort shield BIC provides on each razor & these are specifically designed for people with sensitive skin. Having 3 blades allows for a clean-cut shave and the comfort shield is designed to protect skin from any bumps or scrapes. The grips are great to hold & each razor has a lubricating strip packed with vitamin E and Aloe.

When I take a shower, it’s considered my alone time.

I will play music, wash away any doubts and/or fears, reflect and just take in the calm soothing feeling water allows me to feel in that moment. I am still. I am at peace. All while taking care and loving myself.

while also watching how long I take & how much water I am consuming…

(we trying to save the planet! c’mon guys!)

To healthier habits & a better lifestyle in 2020! starting with our showers! ha.
