PMSing.. What a Bit*h
Hi baes!
Welcome back to the blog & as always - thank you for coming back to read!
Jumping right in,
Ladies!
I feel like it is time to put a stop to the fears that revolve around talking about -
‘our time of the month.’
For the male population (hoping that's a small percentage...) that doesn't know what I'm referring too, I'm talking about our menstrual cycle.
Yes.
I said it.
P e r i o d.
The time of the month where women bleed for 5-7 days straight.
Frightening.
Let’s face it, it’s natural.
Women get their period, once a month - symptoms start two weeks prior & end two weeks after.
So if I did the math correctly, women are on their periods everyday of every month!
Lol totally kidding, but let’s be real - some months really feel like it!
Anyways, I bring this topic up because I used to feel super uncomfortable about speaking upon this topic. Besides the horrific cramps we get during the oh so lovely time that our body wants to remind us that we are powerful as fu*k & the more so obvious -
*NOT PREGNANT*
But as one of my favorite classics have taught me -
I actually used to stop my self from going out during my menstrual cycle because well, for my traditional girls who still like to use pads as a solution - sometimes I just don’t want to be out feeling like I got a diaper on! But life does not stop for the period, as we all unfortunately know.
& let’s be real - us women have all been there & for those who prefer using a tampon - I mean, I’ll leave it at that.
*inserts eggplant emoji*
Uncomfortable to say the least.
For some more than others.
It has been trial and error finding the right brands, the right fit & the right comfort level. Nothing during this time of the month screams out comfort, but I try to make the process as easeful & secure as possible for myself.
I wanted to address this so other women know that they aren’t alone. Embrace that this is a natural process and it is our bodies way of telling us what's going on internally.
Visiting your Gynecologist every year is extremely vital. A general women’s wellness exam, including a pap smear is important in understanding your bodies PH levels, hormone levels & so much other scientific shit that goes on in our bodies that only my GYN can understand and target.
PS: For my younger ladies who are reading (even some of my older ones) you do not have to wear a tampon to be sexy or feel like more of a woman because you can endure a cotton swab up your vagina. If you are uncomfortable, fuck that - find a brand of pads that are most comfortable for you & go with it.
We will all still love you even if you have to wear a diaper for 7 days.
My go-to is usually,
Always Infinity - Flexi & not with the wings!
I hate the wings, super uncomfortable and sticky! But to each its own -
this is a process women go through and in my opinion, deserve all the comfort in the world during this time.
I wanted to address the emotional part of this process too.
Ladies, embrace what you feel. It is a beautiful disastrous week - our bodies are changing every day, we should be kind to its process.
& again, don’t take this advice and think you can use your period as an excuse for being a shitty person for a week, it doesn’t work like that. Embrace the emotions you feel, understand why you are feeling them, cry. Let whatever emotion your body is stirring up to be released.
Another few things I would like to point out -
Know your body.
Treat it well.
Know what you are putting inside of it.
Know w h o you are putting inside of it.
& never be ashamed to have “the talk” with your partner. Being clean and getting tested is not something to ever shy away from. Your life is in the hands of another person during sexual encounters, make sure they are clean hands.
A few tips I like to keep in mind:
I binge the first two days of my period, every single time. It is actually a habit I am trying to cut back on but you just can not help the tub of rocky road ice cream that goes perfectly well with the waterfall of tears coming down your face. I also love caffeine more than I should during this time so soda is my usual go-to bad habit. During this cycle, your body is dehydrated. Anything besides water will tire you out & cause more cramping than you’d like.
Stick to water, eat a few bananas, stretch! It is so important to keep your body mobile as aches and pains only get worse when sitting still. The best thing that helps me, even when I am not on my period - is a nice hot ass shower. Steam that Bit*h, throw on a face mask, have a heating pad on for your back & think about how much of a bad ass super human you are.
I know things can get scary. Speak to someone when things are uncomfortable or when things just don't seem right down there. For those of my ladies who do not have anyone to speak to regarding these things, remember - you always have a friend in me. This is a judgement free zone & I am here to help even when it is regarding your monthly cycle!
More power to the women who can openly discuss our most natural cycles as human beings.
It’s not only my journey, its o u r journey. In every single aspect.
xoxo
